KINI FOTU - THE TONGAN PRINCE - Arguably Hornsbys best ever player - TopicsExpress

KINI FOTU - THE TONGAN PRINCE - Arguably Hornsbys best ever player and a Rugby Union loose forward of Herculean proportions. With flying Fijians to steal the show with dashes of brilliance the Hornsby game plan in the 90s needed an equally determined force in the middle - recycling and advancing the ball without retreat and setting the platter for a nimble half to whip it from the base. With World Cup appearances and Test match caps for TONGA - Tevita Kinisiliti Fotu - aka. Kini Fotu - came to Hornsby in the early 90s to make his mark on Sydney club football with the Lions of 91. Kinis arsenal of rugby footballery was akin to an Air Craft Carrier in a long range battle - be it be crashing over from 5 metres out, making a game turning break and off load, cutting a fullback in half, to slotting a drop goal from near on halfway at The Rock - Kini Fotu had it all. Kini was prolific in this era as were the Lions - He demonstrated the ferocity, skillfullness and attributes the Tongan players have brought and continue to bring to Hornsby Rugby Club. Hornsby has several talented Tongan players in the playing group and they have been recognised amongst the best within their division of the Sydney competition for 2014 recently. The Lions of 91 were unstoppable with 1st Grade winning, 1st Grade Colts winning undefeated, Club Championships and 3 of 5 Grand Final Victories - full Hornsby Advocate articles attached. Premiers and Minor Premiers that year (1991) and Minor premiers in 1992 when Kini was again an outstanding player. Kini is certainly one of the best players ever to wear the red, black and gold. He played No 8 and sometimes blindside flanker. First team photo 1991 premiers, Kini middle row, far right. Second team photo 1992 minor premiers, Kini left of Mark Hudson.
