KPFK News AUDIO: (KPFK News - Los Angeles)A new report reveals a sharp increase in fatal shootings by law enforcement in Southern California. According to the study, theres been a nearly 70 percent in officer and deputy-involved shootings over the last few years. Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck says his department’s shootings were nearly all justified and the result of quicker response time from officers in critical situations. But many residents of hard-hit South Central Los Angeles take issue with law enforcement’s use of deadly force. Pacifica KPFKs Ernesto Arce files this report from South LA.
