KTBA lambastes FBR for feeble response to IRIS issues Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has expressed disenchantment over dilatory attitude shown by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to resolve IRIS system issues. In a letter sent to chairman FBR, KTBA lambasted the board for feeble attitude, saying that despite raising issues being faced by its members, the revenue collection authority did not even bothered to give reply to any letter. It said that new forms for manual submission of income tax returns and IRIS were still being updated since its commencement on September, 16 2014 and added that system remained shut down for several hours on 11th and 12th days of November, due to maintenance. KTBA said that difficulties in gathering information about the breakdown of the gross salary as per certificate issued by the employer and the requirements of the form of return were still unresolved, despite several complaints. It said that such breakdown was still awaited in number of cases and employees were facing hardships to obtain such breakdown from their employers, making tax consultants unable to fill returns as per requirement. Besides, the frequent power outages are also restraining the taxpayers from e-filing of returns through IRIS system. It also cited that board was also intimating the last date of e-filing of income tax returns through advertisements wherein non-profit organisations had been listed along with several other classes and added that non-profit organisations fell under the definition of company within the meaning of Section 80 (2)(b) as amended through Finance Act, 2013. KTBA said that income year of most of such classes of persons ended on June 30 and by virtue of treated to be company, the last date for e-filing of return was December 31, 2014 hence association had requested the board to look into the matter to provide maximum relief to the taxpayers. Moreover, KTBA urged the board to allow further extension in the date of e-filing of income tax returns till December 31, 2014 to enable taxpayers and tax consultants in fulfilling their duties in accordance with law. brecorder/taxation/181:pakistan/1242360:ktba-lambastes-fbr-for-feeble-response-to-iris-issues/?date=2014-11-15
