KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) welcomes any political party - TopicsExpress

KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) welcomes any political party wanting to join Pakatan Rakyat as long as they subscribe to its (PR) policies. Saying this was its state chairman, Baru Bian, in comment to the possibility of Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) joining them in the PR fold. “If SWP is interested in joining PR they need to convince the people that they are not BN-friendly and that they don’t agree to the BN principles. This is important as they (people) are the most important element in the whole issue. “It is after all the people on the ground who will vote (or otherwise) for them and not just party supporters. We are here not only for our members and supporters but we also have to consider the views of the non-political people. We declare our stand by words and actions,” he told a press conference here yesterday. Baru, who is also Ba Kelalan assemblyman, said it would be proper if SWP were to bring the idea (of joining PR) to their grassroots members to seek their opinion instead of coming to a decision based on the opinion of party leaders alone. “On our part, we will discuss the idea during our post mortem meeting so that everybody including leaders at the branch level can have their say. This is our stance as of now. However, there is still no official application from SWP yet,” he added. Among those present at the press conference were state PKR information chief Vernon Aji Kedit and national PKR women vice-president Voon Shiak Ni. On another subject, state PKR vice-chairman, See Chee How, said the party would file an election petition for the Baram seat today. “We have very strong evidence that there was bribery involved and that the Election Commission had flouted almost every law under the Election Offences Act to ensure victory of the BN candidate,” he said. PKR candidate Roland Engan will present the petition. He lost by a slim majority of 194 votes against BN candidate Anyie Ngau.
