KUMBE HATA NEWS NI WAIGANJO.....??? On Sunday evening, Citizen TV aired an ‘eye-opening’ documentary dubbed “The Child Gangs of Dandora” that exposed the organized rape gangs terrorizing young school-going girls in Dandora. However, damning allegations have emerged that the story done by Anne Mawathe was cooked up. In a letter addressed to Media Owners Association of Kenya and copied to Royal Media Services, Pastor Joseph Kamiri, a volunteer working with a youth and children’s organization in Dandora and also the Dandora Residence Association spokesperson, Citizen TV with the help of its journalist, Mawathe, went to Dandora Phase 3 and with the help of a youth from the area, a Mr. Raphael Munjal, paid the young girls Kshs1000 each to interview them. Pastor Kamiri says that Raphael coached the girls, who posed as rape victims, what to say on camera and asked one of the boys (later identified as Maphin Muchoki) to pose as a gang leader. In fact, Muchoki is the son of Mr. Irungu, a former Kenyan boxer who stays at Dandora Phase 3. The boy’s identity is well established and his parents were perturbed to see their son on TV. On the other hand, one of the girls who posed as a rape victim is known as Wanjiru (commonly referred to as Shiro). In the documentary, Wanjiru posed as a 17 year old but in real sense she’s 18 years old. Their parents are well known and told that the story that aired ius not only shameful and disgraceful but also full of falsehoods. The other lady who posed as the mother of the child was allegedly as a result of the rape in dandora Phase 5is called Jemima Waithera and the wife to one Njenga. The child she claimed didn’t have a father is actually Njenga’s son. Pastor Kamiri adds that the story was originally shot at DYMES offices in Dandora’s Phase 3 where they were hosted by Raphael, who is a member of the association. Raphael then summoned the the underage boys and girls telling them there’s a ‘job’ (popularly referred to as ‘mradi’) which if they agreed to pose as actors, they would be give a down-payment of KShs1000 each and after the shoot the full payment. Seeing how lucrative the deal was, the boys agreed and the coaching started.
