"KURIPOT" - I read this word recently posted here in Facebook as one of the endearing terms used to describe Ilocanos - endearing mind you and not a put down. But Ferdz Ulpindo has come up with an eye-opening take on the meaning of this word. Ferdz says Kuripot means Nasalimetmet ken mannanga-asi. How great is that? I only wish I had thought about it sooner. For the sake of our non-Ilocano speaking friends, "KURIPOT" means tightwad. Our interpretation NASALIMETMET (meaning frugal) ken (meaning and) MANNANGA-ASI (meaning generous and charitable) puts the term kuripot in an entirely different light. Thank you Ferdz. Incidentally, Ferdz is the first Augustinian to register as a member of SAS Ai. Go to sasaiinc.org/members-list.html and check it out.
