KWANKWASIYYA LABELS: KANO GOV ABSENT IN COURT Category: News Published on Thursday, 28 November 2013 05:00 Written by Haruna Gimba Yaya, Kano Hits: 17 Kano State Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso Tuesday failed to appear before a state High Court over the inscription of ‘Kwankwasiyya’ on public buildings built by his administration. Kwankwaso was sued alongside his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and the state government by some indigenes of the state. The plaintiffs, Abdullahi Maraya Bakum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hamisu Danwawu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Hassan Sani Indabawa of the Good Governance Advocacy group, are asking the court to declare as illegal and unconstitutional the inscription of “Kwankwasiyya” on projects executed by the state government. They told the court that the governor’s use of public funds to inscribe his “political catchphrase” on government property is discriminatory and dangerous as that could cause the opposition to attack and destroy the property. The plaintiff also requested the court for an order of manda-tory injunction compelling the defendants to remove the “Kwan-kwasiyya” inscription on all public property in the state. The plaintiff’s counsel, Aliyu Umar was in court to present his witnesses, but the defendant’s failure to appear stalled proceeding. The judge, Justice Lawal Wada Mahmoud adjourned the case to December 24.
