KWANKWASO SIGNS CHILD LABOUR BILL, OTHERS INTO LAW Kano state Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has signed the Kano Child Labour Prohibition Bill and three other bills into law. The others are Residents Registration Agency Law, Kano State Entrepreneurship and Vocational Studies Law and Micro Finance Agency Law. Shortly after assenting to the bills on Wednesday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, the governor, who spoke extensively on the Child Labour Bill, explained that henceforth, any person found exploiting children in the state would be prosecuted. Gov. Kwankwaso said that the law stipulates two years in prison for offenders, a fine of N50, 000 or both with a view to discourage child exploitation. The other bills signed into law by the governor, were governor were enacted in order to obtain accurate data of people living in the state, to protect the 24 institutes established by the present administration as well as to encourage the people to engage in productive economic ventures. Meanwhile, Gov. Kwankwaso has received five awards of excellence from Kano state Community Development Organization for enhancing environmental hygiene the state, Kano state Pharmaceutical Technology Students for promoting technical education, Kano state Cabin Crew Students for making them professionals, Rotary Organization for eradication of Polio and World Environmental Management for beautifying the state. The governor, who expressed happiness over the awards, assured them that his government would continue to do more so as to make the state and its people exceptional among other Nigerians. In another development, the governor has presented the sum of N10 million as donation to four victims of Kano Tan Company, who died while washing a tannery chemical container. Presenting the cheques of N2.5 million to each of the victims’ families Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said the donation is not compensation but a step taken to alleviate the pains of the bereaved. The deceased are Dahiru Abdullahi, Sale Abdullahi, Ado Muhammad and Ibrahim Isa. He said the government would no longer tolerate situations whereby workers are exposed to avoidable dangers, disclosing that management of Kano Tan Ltd. has been directed to sponsor the education of one child from each family as well as to employ two persons from each of the affected families, so as to help them overcome the grief of losing a bread winner. In related development, the governor presented Letter of Occupancy of a house, to the family of a former Director of Press to the governor, Late Alhaji Sani Muhammad Usman, who died a few months ago. Similarly, the government donated N1 million to the family. Kwankwaso recalled with nostalgia that the deceased contributed immensely to the success of his administration from 1999-2003, pointing out that up to the time of his death, late Sani was his associate.
