Free Spirit was written about a truly vibrant soul, loved by all that met her, a person whos very being quite literally created colour in any situation. Carla Clarkson aka “Bert” is the Free Spirit the song is about. Bert famously had her DJ residency in the Bombed Out Church Liverpool, and of course the balloon release took place there after her funeral, so of course its fitting the short premier will take place there too. After suffering from a history of social abuse and trauma, Bert incredibly sadly chose to take her own life, breaking the hearts of 1000’s. Berts distinctively personality is depicted in the video by the colours of many balloons as they visit many of her favourite places in the city of Liverpool, where she was famously known. Kydus, a close friend of Bert wrote Free Spirit in tribute after her passing. Yousef and his family also close friends of Bert and owner of Circus Recordings, discussed the Idea of the video with Kydus and the Clarkson family. All agreed for further acknowledgment of the technicolor energy that still surrounds us, the video would be a wonderful compliment to the love so many felt for Bert and furthermore to bring some much needed attention to the prevention of young suicide.
