Kabul is located in the center of Afghanistan, in the southern margin of Hindu Kush Mountains. The old town of Kabul is one of Afghanisatns ancient sites. the city is surrounded on all sides with mountains. The old town has been built on the southern bank of the Kabul river, it extended from Artin bridge eastward to the Bala Hissar(the fortress). the remains of the town walls that were built in the 5th century AD are still evident on the top of the Asmaii mountains. Kabul (the old town) is the second capital of modern Afghanisatn, Timor Shah Abdali(1773-1793 son of Ahmad Shah the great) moved the capital from Kandahar to Char-e-Bagh Kabul. In that time Kabul was the summer capital of Aghanistan, and Peshawar was the winter capital. From that time up to 1950s, the old city of Kabul extended from Artin Bridge eastward to the Bala Hissar, but unfortunnately most of the town has been destroyed in recent years.
