Kadapa Caravan Student Loses , We Need Your Help! Eleven year old Kadapa student Shaik shahabuddin joined Caravan in Sept. of 2011. For three years he has performed brilliantly beyond our highest standards in academics. With a love and aptitude for math and reading that suggests he can go far and be very successful at his studies, shahabuddin has shown an immediate promise for a bright academic future. Being physically healthy and very active as many boys of his age, shahabuddin eagerly participated in sport such as Cricket. And he never neglected his spiritual development. He seemed to have a genuine joy for going to Madrasah Unfortunately, recently all of this has changed for shahabuddin. He has become convinced that he should leave school, sports and religious studies to work in a jewelry store more than 10 hours a day. School is no longer his first priority and he has ceased extra curricular activities insisting he would rather work than finish his education. His family, especially his hard working mother, are desperate to see that shahabuddin remains on the right path and does not fall into a life of below subsistence wage labor that makes no use of his natural intelligence and talents. He has gone from being a hard working student on course to becoming a productive member of his community to a child who has lost all interest in his school, family and community. He no longer sees any valid reasons to stay in school. Instead he wants to stop his personal and academic development in its tracks and opt for a hard labor job that pays well below living standards greatly increasing his chances of ending up living well below the poverty line. So, we are appealing to all of you, the Caravan Community and Team Members, too join us to help create a solution and strategy to get Shaik shahabuddin back on track as fast as possible.
