Kagina dismisses UNRA ‘rumours’ BY ALON MWESIGWA Former Uganda Revenue Authority boss Allen Kagina has dismissed as “rumours” reports that she is to become executive director of the Uganda National Roads Authority (Unra). Social media and sections of the press have reported that Kagina is set to take over at the roads authority. But speaking to The Observer by phone on Tuesday Kagina said: “I have also seen it [speculation] on social media. I don’t know where people are getting it from.” Asked if she would be willing to take the job were it offered to her, Kagina said: “Ah-ah; do not push me”. Earlier, State House sources had told The Observer that Kagina had been appointed and could be officially announced as soon as next month. Kagina retired from URA last October after working at the institution for more than 20 years, half of that time as the commissioner general. On her way out of URA in October, she told journalists that she would not join politics, but would be willing to serve in another public institution. Dan Alinange, the Unra spokesperson told The Observer: “Unra has a board and when the new executive director is appointed, we shall release a statement. We are capable enough to release a statement.” Unra’s acting executive director Ssebugga Kimeze was suspended in August to pave way for investigations into the Mukono-Katosi road crisis, amid suspicion that the contract had been awarded to a brief-case company. Kagina is credited for leading URA from being the most corrupt and incompetent public institution, to one of the most efficient in Uganda. [email protected]
