Kahawa Sukari ward rep killed in Limuru accident The Kahawa Sukari ward representative died in a road accident at Ngarariga, Limuru on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Saturday morning. Dickson Maina Mathenge was pronounced dead on arrival at Kijabe Mission Hospital after the car he was driving lost control and hit a pillar on the Ngarariga flyover. A woman passenger in the same vehicle died on the spot. Three other passengers, her husband and two children, are admitted at the hospital with injuries. Lari officer in charge of operations Gladys Lutere said the woman was an employee of the judiciary. “The bodies were taken to Kenyatta University Mortuary,” said Lutere. Kiambu Deputy Speaker Anthony Macharia, who ferried the bodies to the mortuary, said he was called by members of the public who had identified Mathenge by his assembly ID card. He described Mathenge as hardworking, active and aggressive and an influential deputy chairman of the finance committee. The bodies were received at the mortuary by Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo, Kiambu county TNA coordinator Gladys Chania and more than 30 MCAs. Macharia said the accident occurred at a black spot where a child was hit by a car and died on the spot yesterday morning. Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and county assembly members Chief Whip Charles Waarahuka, Binary Wainaina (Kikuyu) and Hudson Mutonya (Sigona) learnt of the death while attending Henry Wanyoike Run. “The Governor was so saddened that he left the function. We send our condolences to the family,” said Wainaina.
