Kalawa JazzMe Issues HoT producer has found himself out in the cold. DJ Maphorisa has been sent away to think by his stable Kalawa Jazmee Records, and rumours are flying that Maphorisa and the label’s director Mahoota, don’t get along. But Daily Sun understands that Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sekowa, was suspended after he went behind Mahoota’s back and recorded a music video for their re-make hit, Not Yet Uhuru by Letta Mbulu. The suspension means he can’t take part in any of Kalawa’s events or performances, nor produce for them. Maphorisa co-produced and was the brains behind hit singles including Mafikizolo’s Khona, L’vovo and Professor’s Palesa, Mahoota vs Vetkuk’sStokvel and Not Yet Uhuru, among others. A source close to Mahoota and Maphorisa said: “The rift between the two is caused by Maphorisa’s attitude towards his work, while Mahoota wants to work with focused producers. “Maphorisa feels the Kalawa guys are taking their time marketing his group Uhuru so he took it upon himself to shoot the video without their knowledge.” Maphorisa confirmed his suspension from Kalawa Jazzme but dismissed claims of bad blood between himself and Mahoota. “What I did was wrong, I acknowledge that,” he said. “At the moment I’m going through a lot of things in my mind. “A lot of people hate me because I make hits but this suspension is just a phase,” he said. When called for a comment Mahoota said: “We at Kalawa don’t discuss our internal matters in the media so I suggest you go to your source for comment because I have nothing to say about this issue.”
