Kambwili Attacks Rupiah for Praising Chanda Chimba Sports - TopicsExpress

Kambwili Attacks Rupiah for Praising Chanda Chimba Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili has taken issue with fourth Republican president Rupiah Banda’s praise of freelance journalist Chanda Chimba III over the Stand Up for Zambia documentaries that exactly predicted a country under Michael Sata’s leadership. Chimba, who is facing politically motivated criminal and civil charges, produced a series of documentaries in 2011 which also highlighted the violence perpetrated by Sata as an opposition leader and has widely manifested in the country. The journalist has earned the title of ‘prophet’ from a cross section of Zambians including thousands of Patriotic Front cadres that are disappointed with the management of the country’s affairs. Social media and the country is awash with praises for Chimba sometimes by people who despised him for the same documentaries but Kambwili seems to be among the few ‘useful idiots’ that have not appreciated the outstanding efforts by the journalist. Below is the story published by the PF newsletter, The Post, quoting Kambwili discrediting Rupiah over Chimba. IT is shameful and disgusting for Rupiah Banda to support stupidity at his age, says Chishimba Kambwili. Commenting on Banda’s praise of freelance journalist Chanda Chimba for his Stand up for Zambia programme, describing him as a ‘prophet’ who foresaw the PF becoming violent when voted into power, Kambwili said the comment was disappointing and disgusting. He said Banda should give advice rather than encourage stupidity by praising the propaganda that Chimba was broadcasting. Kambwili said Banda owed Zambians an apology as there was nothing sensible in Chimba’s broadcasts. “It is very disappointing to hear that comment coming from Rupiah Banda and the only thing I can say is that the old man must give advice. “We respect him, he is an old man, so he must give proper advice and not encourage stupidity. What Chanda Chimba was doing was an act of stupidity. I cannot comment much because the matter is in court, but for one to be taken to court, then an old man like “Rupiah encouraging him that what he did was correct, leaves much to be desired. One wonders the kind of person we entrusted to run the country,” Kambwili said. He said he was disappointed with Banda’s statement because he should have been in the forefront uniting the nation. “I am very disappointed because I hold Rupiah in high esteem, and I am sure you will agree with me that I have never issued any derogatory remarks against Mr Rupiah Banda, but I am so disappointed and disgusted that he can utter those words. I only hope he was misquoted; otherwise, if he said that, then he owes the country an apology,” said Kambwili. And when asked about the recent attacks on UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema by suspected PF supporters on the Copperbelt when he turned up for an interview at Sun FM radio, Kambwili said the levels of violence during MMD’s rule could not be compared to what happened in Ndola. “Can that be compared to the violence that we saw in MMD? Between you and me, can the two be compared? The levels of violence under Rupiah Banda and MMD were so much and when we are issuing these statements, we must not shy away from looking at the past or history. “MMD was such a violent party that beat up everyone everywhere. In fact, senior leaders of our party condemn violence; what happened in Ndola is unfortunate and we have condemned it. The government spokesperson has condemned it, the secretary general has also condemned it and I am equally doing the same,” he said, further advising politicians to use acceptable language in their campaigns. Kambwili accused Hichilema of using insulting and provocative language whenever he was on radio. zambiareports/2014/04/20/kambwili-attacks-rupiah-praising-chanda-chimba/
