Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella on the Ebola crisis, making a direct appeal to the UK DFID Minister to assist the Government of Sierra Leone. UN Under-Secretary-General Kandeh K. Yumkella launches UN Decade for Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) in Europe. Held to coincide with the start of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the European launch of the UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) 2014-2024 was held this afternoon in Glasgow as part of a trade, aid and sustainable energy focused event hosted by the Scottish Government. Led by the UN Under-Secretary-General and Chief Executive of SE4ALL, Dr Kandeh Yumkella and hosted by Scotland’s International Development Minister Humza Yousaf, Paul Wheelhouse, Scottish Environment Minister and a keynote address by UK International Development Minister Lynne Featherstone. The event was attended by representatives of government, business, academia and civic society from across the Commonwealth. On the margins of the event, Dr. Yumkella made a direct appeal to the UK DFID Minister to assist the Government of Sierra Leone on the Ebola crisis facing the country. Both Yumkella and Featherstone believe the situation with Ebola is very serious and all hands must come together to combat this deadly disease. Though he has not met Dr. Humarr Khan, Yumkella expressed his sadness that head doctor fighting Ebola outbreak in the country has contracted the deadly virus. I call on all Sierra Leoneans to remember him and all those affected in their thoughts and prayers, he said. Minister Featherstone understands the issue and promises DFIDs strongest support in combating the disease but it begins with containment and isolation of all suspected cases.
