Karate Nyumon Introduction to Karate By Funakoshi Gichin 1943 this almost mythical book came out. Extremely rare in comparison to Funakoshi’s other books and no copies to be found anywhere. The first edition I have only seen once, and that was 2006 by a seller who only offered it privately to his most treasured costumers. This copy is the likewise rare 1951 enhanced edition from 1951. Worldcat has only one copy recorded. Most of us have to satisfy with the English translation by John Teramoto that was published 1988 by Kodansha. I have not yet compared the text with Teramoto’s but just having the original photographs and drawings is a treasure trove. If anyone has more information about the Nyumon editions any complementary notes would be much appreciated. The first picture is from the very fragile dustjacket that managed to survive.
