Karen Poist Zimmerer asks for advice: Hello, I was just wondering if anyone may have some advice to offer for this situation: My niece has a 9 week old kitten that was injured a few days ago by accident when a human fell on her. She was taken to the emergency vet in Towson and the diagnosis was a torn ligament and she was sent home with pain meds. She went to Rosedale Vet today and was told that the x-rays showed that there were damaged vertebrae that are pushing on her spinal cord and in order to start the process for a medical procedure, she would need an MRI, at the cost of $1800 and surgery would cost between $4000 & $6000 with no guarantees. My niece is just a kid (22) and doesnt have that kind of money. She is absolutely against putting the kitten down and of course I understand. First, this is a serious injury, is it possible that surgery will help? Second, are there any programs out there that might be able to help with expenses or offer discounted services? and third, are there any recommendations for orthopedic surgeons? She is absolutely beside herself right now and of course I will help as much as I can, but thats a lot of money for a surgery that might not help. I appreciate any feedback that you can offer, thanks!
