Kashmir candidates lure voters with household goods Author: Neyaz Elahi Srinagar/Anantang: Its celebration time for voters in South and Central Kashmir, with candidates and their local workers spending well to woo them. Distribution of blankets, solar lamps, electric wire and poles, eatables, spices, grocery items and other items are all on. Locals at Mathmoo area of Shangus Assembly segments seized a truck (JK03-5622) carrying grocery items for distribution purposes among voters. The grocery items according to locals belonged to incumbent legislator of a political party. “We caught hold of driver while the four other supporters of a political party managed to escape. We handed over the truck to police and the driver has been arrested and lodged in police chowki Uttersoo, Shangus,” a local Muhammad Iqbal told CNS adding that every candidate is spending hefty amount to lure voters. Police refused to divulge information about the issue and asked to contact Returning Officer while despite repeated attempts Returning Officer did not pick up the phone. Meanwhile, in Natipora and other adjacent areas, the workers of incumbent legislator in a bid to lure voters have been asking them to enroll their names, if they wish to get relief material. “I was asked to enroll my name in the list but I refused,” said a woman from Natipora adding that during floods when they needed relief, they were denied the same and now to grab votes they are befooling us. Another voter told CNS that he will get whatever and whosoever will provide him relief. “This is the right time to get something from these politicians who disappear from the scene soon after elections are over,” he said.
