#KashmirFloods update: A major impact of these floods has been on heath services. The sole paediatric hospital in Srinagar had its ground floor submerged under water for more than a week. This claimed at least 14 infants’ lives, according to reports. A similar situation prevailed in Lallded maternity hospital in Srinagar. Water & sanitationsystems along with electrical & medical equipmentwere severely affected. Our teams have been assessing this situation from September 12 and responded to it. We airlifted water treatment tablets, mobile water treatment kits along with sanitation kits. The next step was to identify the five most critical hospitals to restore clean water supply. In coordination with government health teams & volunteers, we tested water tanks & water quality in these areas. We have repaired a reverse-osmosis (RO) filtration unit & disinfected water tanks in the Bone & Joint Hospital (18,000 litres) and in the GB Pant Hospital (60,000 litres).
