Next, it will be maternity leave, then bereavement leave (for funerals). Yeah, I know, youre going to say I dont have it, why should anyone else? This is one more nail in the coffin for everyone, for your children and grandchildren, who will go to work. I already know, that the freedoms my daughter has now, are on the chopping block with conservatives. As soon as they get all those reproductive rights sewn up, and theyre getting really close in some states, then it will be voting rights, which if you have read anything lately, you know that in some states, you already need several pieces of ID to vote. DID YOU KNOW...there is one state that will require you to not only bring in your voter ID, but your birth certificate, and you will have to bring in ALL your marriage certificates and divorce papers to prove your last name? HMMM? Its on its way to your front door. I thoroughly expect the Christian right, who just doesnt get the idea that if you dont pay TAXES, you should keep your baptized nose out of politics, to try and get legislators to go after womens right to work. Women need to be home, having all those babies they cant prevent, and for Gods sake, dont wear shoes. We already have heard about Saudi women fighting for the right to drive a car, yet again, I expect that to be a future target right here in our country. My daughter will see the day when women cannot work, vote, drive or drink and be required to wear full cover in public, basic human freedoms that I and my grandmothers enjoyed, gone, for the sake of a corporate organization that wants women to just keep pumping out cannon fodder for future wars, if things continue in the downward spiral that they have been these last few years. Everyone one of us is allowing this to happen, thanks to the fear that grows every single day in all of us, every time we see another post about another police officer that goes berserk and beats the hell out of, or humiliates a woman by the side of the road with a strip search, all for a turn signal being out, or a dropped cigarette. You know that terrifies you. I have NO idea how to stop this, and yes, I fear my children will never know anything but slavery to the wishes of the corporation and the return of religion to Old Testament beliefs. ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, has been instrumental in blocking paid sick leave legislation across the United States. This corporate lobbying group has been following a strategy of “state pre-emption” to try to head off a growing movement in American cities to legislate paid time off for workers; in fact, they handed out the “model legislation” for their attack on workers’ rights to their legislators as far back as 2011. “Preemption” is a way that ALEC can suppress this democratic movement for paid leave by suppressing what people are allowed to vote for, changing the rules so that local governments and local voters are unable to propose and vote in paid time off for their sick workers.
