Kathy Stanford South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund Brownwood, TX Dear Friends and Family, Kathy is a courageous wife, mother and for the past 10 years, an employee at Hastings. For the last 15 years she has been battling with Lupus and its’ many medical complications, while also helping her husband who 10 years ago was diagnosed with MS. Kathy’s Lupus has caused her to live with deteriorating kidney function and now she is in end-stage renal failure. As a result, she is on dialysis three times a day – every day. Kathy has been told that her only chance at a healthy life is to have a kidney transplant and she is currently undergoing evaluations to be placed on the active transplant list at Baylor University Medical Center. Through all this Kathy has been determined to live life to the fullest. She was given a terminal diagnosis when her son was three-years-old and remained determined to see Blaen graduate high school in 2012. Now her focus is to see him graduate college. Seeing her son reach milestones in his life has kept Kathy going -- her strength and giving nature is a testament to her will to live. No matter how bad her day may be, she continues to place others needs before hers. She and her husband have organized countless community benefits for the ill and needy. One of these events, an annual toy drive now in its fourth year, has provided Christmas gifts to children who would not have otherwise had a Christmas. Now it is time for her community to give back. Funding this life-saving operation will be a monumental task. Even with insurance, Kathy will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation to the transplant center and the costly immunosuppressant medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life. This presents a financial challenge that Kathy cannot meet alone. To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Kathy’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
