The average DJ might not appreciate all that goes into performing a text book Beat Juggle. From visually and sonically tracking where each kick, snare, and high hat land as the record spins, to developing the muscle memory it takes for your limbs to operate independent of each other yet, coordinated enough to manually program a funky drum pattern. Key word being PROGRAM cause thats exactly what youre doing. Your ultimate goal is to manipulate the Technic 1200 like Large Professor on an SP 1200. So when my students begin to show signs of being able to mentally process all thats involved in a Beat Juggle, one of the first techniques I teach them is Steve Dees famous Snare Pattern. Heres a video of my student, DJ Shines, learning how to perform one of the most fundamental Beat Juggles in the genre of Turntablism. PS Understanding how to Beat Juggle properly eventually comes down to 3 personality traits: *Passion - Sarah drove 4 hours from Cincinnati to Cleveland, with all of her equipment, just to practice with me at my hotel. *Consistency - The video you see here wasnt filmed 3 minutes and 46 seconds. I coached her for hours. There was a lot of stopping and starting but never once did she give up. *Fun - I could tell Sarah was enjoying the process of understanding the Snare Pattern. Her ability to avoid exerting tension on to the learning process made the experience fun for her and me. Its easy to learn/teach when youre having fun. Hopefully, this information will help all of you beginners who want to learn how to perform Beat Juggles. https://youtube/watch?v=gVISh8Zjypk
