Katie update: We are home safe. Thank you Jesus for the safe journey there and back. The scans showed what we were expecting. The tumors are growing. Her last scans in Jan showed some changes but not enough to drain or remove them then. Fridays scans showed no fluid on the brain and the cystic tumors (that have been drained during the last 5 emergency surgeries) are filling with fluid again but they are small and are not the cause of all her nausea and pain. (Thats the good news) The surgeons have noticed the craniopharyngioma mass has been changing shape and size since her 2nd surgery in 2011 but until now the changes have been subtle, now 3yrs and 4 surgeries later they feel the mass has grown so large that it is creating the pressure. Her surgeon feels that her only option is to try and remove the 2 cystic tumors and the craniopharyngioma mass with a 7th surgery. This will be a repeat of the 1st surgery she had in 2010. It will be a large incision along her forehead hairline down past her Rt ear, they will access the brain by doing a full craniotomy. As many of you know the more surgeries you have to greater the risk. I asked every Dr that would listen if this surgery was her only option. We know she doesnt have a quality life now but we dont want to make things worse. When the Dr told us scan results Katie just sat quietly as I asked question after question. When the dr left Katie said, mom, now I know for sure whats going on, it has given me peace of mind so I can move forward. I dont want to have another surgery, Im scared. I just want to go home, go to Prom on Sat and enjoy my life no matter how much longer it is. You can imagine my reply while fighting the tears. If your not willing to fight for your life then Im gonna fight for you. Katie just said mom, its my life, Im tired and scared its my choice! We have some really hard decisions to make in the next few days. Please pray with me for guidance to make the right choice with and for her. I know my Heavenly Father is walking with us. My faith is being tested but I know he will provide spiritually and financially for my family. Thank you for your sweet prayers for my Kate. Peace and love to you all.
