Keep Dalhart Beautiful Decorate Dalhart Contest Contest Rules: • Choose between 1, 2, or 4 planters for the 26 planters to decorate. • If you sign up and don’t decorate your planter, you will not be eligible to participate the next year. We would like Downtown Dalhart to look beautiful for the holidays and the winter months. If some planters remain undecorated, we defeat the purpose. Cost and Design: • There is no entry fee, and the materials you use are at your own expense. • We are not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen decoration. There will be no reimbursement of expenses for any reason by the City and/or KDB. • Decoration must be appropriate and safe for the public, no barbed wire or inappropriate designs. We reserve the right to remove any decoration. • We prefer that the decoration stays in the planter until spring planting. Please create decoration so it will look nice even after Christmas. You may change the decoration after Christmas to new holiday themes, including Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, etc. If you plan to change the decoration, please provide a description of your plans to be eligible for the “Most Versatile” category. You may pick up your decoration after April 1. Anything remaining after April 15 will be removed. • Be creative. Rebar trees with garland, tumble weed painted green, upside down tomato cages, etc. • Decoration must be secured to the planter to withstand wind and snow storms in a way that doesn’t damage the planter. For example: using hemp string, zip ties or coated wire is okay, bare wire would damage the paint. Decoration may be disqualified if not suitable. • The width will be no more than the outside of the planter and the height is limited to 36”. • There is no power to the planters. Solar lights may be used. (Remember, we are not liable for stolen or damaged decorations). • Please place a sign of some kind with the name of your organization in each planter. The Dates: • KDB will prepare the planters by Dec 4. Plants remaining in the planters are perennials and must remain. You may NOT dig up or damage plants. You will be allowed to drive a stake or rebar into the center of the planter. • Applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce and their website or on FaceBook Keep Dalhart Beautiful. KDB will assign you the planter location. All applications must be turned in to the Chamber of Commerce Office by December 5, 2014 at 5:00 pm. • Decoration should be installed no later than Dec 13 at 10:00 a.m. You may start decorating as soon as you have been assigned a location and you planter is cleaned up. • Judging will happen on Dec 13 at 10:00 a.m. • Winners will have a sign posted to indicate 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winner, “Most Creative”, “Citizen’s Choice” and “Most Versatile” for the winter and spring holidays.
