Keep The Good Work 1 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence”. Nehemiah 2:1 We are told in the scriptures that the Kings cupbearer Nehemiah usually tasted the wine before serving it to the king, and necessity was laid on him to also serve the king joyfully. Notice from that scripture that Nehemiah never had cause to be sad or depressed in the course of his duties. Beloved, the question is how zealous and enthusiastic are you in whatever assignment you are given? Do you enjoy doing what you do either in the Church, workplace or home? Do you do what you do simply to please the man that gave you the assignment? Remember that it is not about your employer or the person who gave you the assignment but it is all about God who gave you the privilege to serve. Child of God, promotion does not come cheap; it comes from hard work and diligence backed up by prayers. So how do you function in your place of work? Are you the type of person that works by the clock and disappears as soon as it is closing time or even before? Are you joyful in what you do or do wear a long face when you are called upon to carry out an assignment? Take note that Nehemiah had never been sad before in the kings presence so it was easy for the king to easily notice that something was not quite right. Can the same be said about the way you work? Nehemiah was so used to functioning in an atmosphere of joy that the day his countenance dropped, every person rallied around him. Do you realize that ordinarily, the behaviour Nehemiah exhibited could have attracted the kings anger, but no, the King just knew that something was not right. If Nehemiah had not been diligent, serviceable, faithful and committed in time past, he would never have received the favour of the king. Rather than incurring the anger of the king, Nehemiah had the door of favour thrown wide open for him and the king met all his needs. I encourage you today to serve diligently and cheerfully and your reward is sure.
