Kejriwal signs up to battle Dikshit, Gupta for New Delhi seat - The Hindu Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday filed his nomination for the Delhi polls from the New Delhi Assembly constituency, thus officially entering his name for what promises to be an epic three-way battle for the seat between himself, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and former state BJP chief Vijender Gupta. Flanked by his mother Geeta, father Govind Ram and wife Sunita, Mr. Kejriwal filed his nomination at the District Magistrate’s office at Jamnagar House. “I am not contesting this election for myself but for the common man. I have filed my nomination on their behalf. I am filing on the last day (for filing nominations) because I was waiting for the Chief Minister to file hers, as I wanted to contest against her,” he told reporters. Mr. Kejriwal left his office at around 10.45 a.m. along with hundreds of supporters and reached the office of the Returning Officer about an hour later. He went to the Returning Officer’s chamber accompanied by party colleagues Pankaj Gupta, Sanjay Singh, Gopal Mohan and Rishikesh. Asked about the declaration of assets and any criminal cases against him in his affidavit, he said that his wife and himself had combined assets amounting to around Rs. 2 crore, which includes a plot of land in his own name in Indirapuram in Ghaziabad and a flat in Gurgaon in his wife’s name. There were two cases filed against him by Dikshit and Pawan Khera, in which charge sheets have been filed, he added. Apart from the above, some cases were slapped against him in the course of Anna Hazare’s movement for the Janlokpal Bill and during the protests over the December 16 gangrape in the city. He said he had also been named in some cases related to the violation of the poll code by his party. Till Friday, a total of 403 candidates had joined the electoral fray for the December 4 Delhi Assembly polls. Today was the last day for the filing of nominations. Mr. Kejriwal’s parents, who were not permitted by police to accompany the AAP convener inside the office of the Returning Officer, expressed confidence about their son’s prospects in the upcoming elections. Mr. Kejriwal’s mother said she was sure AAP would win 47 seats although his father refused to speculate on the tally. “I am confident he will win and his party will form the government. He would not have entered politics had him and Anna Hazare not been duped by politicians,” she said. Terming Mr. Kejriwal a man of strong will, his father said the AAP leader son was focused on serving the country. When asked about his son not receiving support from Hazare and Kiran Bedi in his electoral endeavour, the senior Mr. Kejriwal said, “They said they won’t get into politics as it is mucky, but Arvind plunged into it saying he will pull up his sleeves and take the ‘broom’ to clean it up.” View comment(1) Post Comment RELATED NEWS DMDK to contest Delhi pollsNovember 17, 2013 Only AAP can defeat Sheila, says Kejriwal November 17, 2013 Delhi polls: Do outsiders stand a chance this time?November 15, 2013 Delhi polls: Fight for top post intensifiesNovember 14, 2013 Donation to AAP jumps six-fold after government ordered probeNovember 14, 2013 Rebel AAP member alleges absence of “internal democracy” November 13, 2013 AAP has empowered common people, say votersNovember 11, 2013 AAP a Congress front, says BJPNovember 11, 2013 Sheila can’t rule us out: Kejriwal November 11, 2013 Dikshit questions source of AAP funds November 10, 2013 Delhi BJP fields Vijender Gupta against SheilaNovember 7, 2013 “AAP stands on a weak footing” November 1, 2013 AAP manifesto highlights Sheila’s ‘carelessness’ towards her own seat November 1, 2013 We are setting agenda: Kejriwal October 30, 2013 AAP mobilises 17 crore in funds October 30, 2013 AAP looking for a “formidable” candidate against Harsh Vardhan October 29, 2013 AAP spices up campaign with Kejriwal’s calls October 28, 2013 The Aam AadmisOctober 27, 2013 Sheila refuses AAP leader’s invitation for an open debate October 25, 2013 AAP goes door-to-door for 71 unique manifestos October 21, 2013 AAP popularity rising among the youth, slum dwellers and Dalits: surveyOctober 19, 2013 AAP removes candidate with ‘criminal background’ October 14, 2013 More In: Delhi | News | National | Other States KLik Baca selanjutnya : ift.tt/1gVZqNV
