Kennett Police Department News Release 10-03-2014 At approximately 11:27am, officers conducted a traffic stop on Independence Avenue at Casey’s on a vehicle that was observed making traffic violations. The driver, identified as 32 year old Jonathan Taylor of Caruthersville, was asked for his consent to search the vehicle, which he refused. At that point the Kennett Police Department’s K-9 Midas was called in. Upon arrival, K-9 Midas gave an immediate alert on the trunk of the vehicle. K-9 Midas also gave a subsequent alert to the driver’s door and then under the driver’s seat giving officers the probable cause needed to search the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, officers located an undisclosed amount Methamphetamine (ICE), an undisclosed amount of Marijuana, and a set of digital scales. Taylor was subsequently placed under arrest and held in the Dunklin County Justice Center. Charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine and Marijuana) with the Intent to Distribute are expected to be filed by the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. The Kennett Police Department would like to note that this arrest would have not been made and the illegal narcotics that were seized would have remained on the streets without the assistance of K-9 Midas. The Kennett Police Department would also like thank the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department and Prosecuting Attorney Steve Sokoloff for their assistance during this incident.
