Kentucky Humane Society July 18 URGENT: Two days ago, a kitten - TopicsExpress

Kentucky Humane Society July 18 URGENT: Two days ago, a kitten was thrown from a car in Southern Indiana. A truck driver saw this despicable act and rescued the kitten, whose front leg had been ripped from his body by the impact. The Kentucky Humane Society took charge of this poor animal and rushed to stabilize him. Once stable, the little three-month-old kitten, named Trucker, had the remainder of his leg amputated to prevent infection and aid in the healing process. Though purring and eating hungrily, Trucker is not standing on his own, and we will need further x-rays and diagnostics to determine what else we can do to help this poor baby. Our Help Me Heal fund was established to help sick and injured animals who need costly medical procedures. We are using this fund to help Trucker but it will be very expensive. We need to raise more money to continue to save more lives. We are asking everyone who can to donate to the Kentucky Humane Society. Donate online at kyhumane.org/donate. We will keep you posted on Trucker. July 19th UPDATE: X-rays today show that Trucker, whose front left leg was ripped from his body on impact when he was thrown from a car, also has a broken pelvis. We will consult with an orthopedic specialist to see what the next steps are. Despite his significant injuries, he is eating well, enjoys attention, and is now able to sit up for the first time since he arrived. Truckers care will be expensive. You can help by giving online at kyhumane.org/donate. We will continue to post about Truckers prognosis. Thank you for caring about this precious kitten! 21 hours ago: UPDATE ON TRUCKER: Truckers colon cleansing went very well. He woke up from anesthesia hungry and happy, and he urinated in his litter box this afternoon. The veterinarian will keep him on medicines to help him potty. His blood work looks good, and the amputation site is healing nicely. We want to thank everyone for the kind thoughts, words and donations. Please continue to keep Trucker in your thoughts as he goes about the long process of healing. We will keep you updated. The Kentucky Humane Society takes in many victims of abuse and neglect and provides them with the medical and behavioral help they need to recover from the trauma they have experienced. We save every single adoptable pet we take in and found homes for more than 6,300 homeless cats and dogs last year. We rehabilitated more than 200 animals last year with significant medical or behavioral challenges caused by abuse, neglect, trauma, illness and disease. KHS is not a government agency, and we rely on donations to fund our lifesaving work. Donations are gratefully accepted at kyhumane.org/donate.
