Kenya Red Cross E-Plus Ambulance Attacked in Rhamu, Mandera ******************************************************************************* Since 13th May 2014 there has been ongoing inter-clan conflict between the Degodia and Garre communities in both Wajir and Mandera Counties. This has led to 51 people losing their lives, 95 injured and a total of 13,536 HHs displaced. The violence in May 2014, led to loss of 14 lives in one week as follows: Burmayo (3 persons), Towfiq-Rhamu (5 persons), Gunana (2 persons), Bolowle-Takaba (3 persons) and Guba Banissa (1 Person). A total of 38 people suffered varying forms of injury from these attacks. Besides these attacks, 8 police officers were killed (including blazing of their vehicle) when suspected Al-Shabaab militia ambushed a police vehicle at Arabia, along the Lafey Mandera road in the third week of May. During the month, retaliatory attacks followed with 12 confirmed dead in Gulana village (Wajir County) and 2 deaths on the Mandera side of the border. 20 houses were burnt down in Gulana. In the first two days of June 2014, follow-up attacks were reported leading to the killing of 18 more people and 8 critical injuries. The recent incident started on 22nd August 2014 around 0930 hrs to 1950 hrs in Rhamu. Another attack was reported at around 0645 hrs on 24th August 2014. So far three people have been killed and 43 casualties (25 soft tissue injuries, 18 serious injuries) and several displaced to Rhamu police station, DC’s office, Bula Girissa and Bula Doday. Today 25th August 2014, an explosion was reported in Mandera town where 6 people were injured after a grenade exploded near a shop within the town.
