Kenya ceases membership to the ICC The Kenyan parliament has voted to withdraw from the Rome Statute. Parliament approved of the motion "to suspend any links, cooperation and assistance" to the International Criminal Court with a big majority. The National Assembly is dominated by the supporters of President Kenyatta and Vice President Ruto, who both face charges at the ICC. The vote has no effect on the cases, however, as preparation for the trials in The Hague already has begun. The withdrawal does not mean that never again a case can be initiated against a Kenyan national: the UN Security Council may confer jurisdiction over a non-party national to the Court by way of a resolution.
