Kenyas Equity Bank plans to launch a mobile-telecoms service in July this year. This in a bid to tap into the countrys lucrative telecommunication sector. Equity was licensed as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator by the telecoms regulator earlier this year, giving it permission to run its service using a telecom operators network. The company will offer its customers SIM cards linked directly to their bank accounts. Customers will then be able to access their accounts and apply for loans via their mobile phones.
