Kenyas biggest bank by number of accounts Equity bank has reported a 21 percent growth in the half year to June 2014 returning an untaxed profit of 123.4 million dollars. The bank with subsidiaries in Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Rwanda reported that these have all broken even and are now contributing to the groups performance. The bank pioneered with an agency banking model that it reports grew by 60 percent and during the 6 months, contributed to more than half of new deposits. The bank plans to roll out its mobile virtual network operations within the next month to allow its customers an independent mobile banking platform in what it describes as its revolutionary next step.
