Kenya’s Chief Justice has urged nationals of the East African country to resort to the shrine instead of the courts to resolve their differences. He said Christians and Muslims can also rely on their various faiths to address disputes. The obviously frustrated Chief Justice, Willy Mutunga, told Kenyans in a speech that even witch-doctors can help them resolve their cases. Opening a new court in Kiambu, Kenya, Mr Mutunga expressed concern at the large number of cases coming to the courts in recent times. He said, “Even in Kutui, where I come from, I have told people they can go to the witchdoctors to solve issues.” Willy Mutunga has an enviable reputation in Kenya for cleaning and enhancing the image of the judiciary. He chaired the panel that validated the legitimacy of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the democratically elected leader of the East African nation. But his latest remarks has been met with backlash from the people of Kenya.
