Kenya’s Interior Minister and Police Chief Dismissed after Al-Shabab’s Attack on Quarry Workers Kenya’s Interior Minister, Joseph Ole Lenku was dismissed from his post on Tuesday after Al-Shabab attacked a Quarry in the town of Korome near Mandera. President Uhuru Kenyatta named, retired army general, Joseph Nkaissery with his opposition as Lenku’s replacement. In Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, police chief, David Kimaiyo also announced his resignation. He mentioned the president has accepted his move for early retirement. Early Tuesday morning, Al-Shabab attacked the quarry, separated Muslims from non-Muslims and executed 36 people they found to be non-Muslims. Not long ago, the militants also attacked and killed 28 passengers on a bus in the northeastern town of Mandera. President Kenyatta in an address, told Kenyans the country “will not flinch or relent in the war against terrorism.” He continued by saying, “We shall continue to inflict painful casualties on this terrorists until we secure our country and region.” The president charged his countrymen to make a choice, to choose whether they will side with “a repressive, intolerant and murderous extremists,” or take “the side of an open free democratic Kenya which respects the rule of law, sanctity of life and freedom of worship.” Recognizing the country’s progress in fighting terrorism, president Kenyatta also mentioned there are still some weaknesses in the “security architecture.” He mentioned extensive recruiting of security forces and provisions for their well-being. Security officials and legislators have been asked to work together to comb out red tapes hindering the fight on terror, the president said. Every Kenyan was called on by the president to “take a principle stand against the evil of terror “ and to support the war against it.
