Keshi Defends Enyeama’s Exclusion -Lille Keeper Returns Against Malawi Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has downplayed critical comments trailing his decision to leave the team’s stand-in captain, Vincent Enyeama out of the list of invitees for next month’s international friendly against South Africa. Rather than cross issues with soccer lovers and analysts, who are raising eyebrows over the ace goalkeeper’s absence among the 20 players that will tango Bafana Bafana in the Nelson Mandela Challenge in Durban, South Africa on August 14, Keshi says he only wants to give others a chance to man the Eagles’ post. However, a school of thought insists Enyeama is being punished for leading the players’ mutiny that almost put on hold Nigeria’s advent to the recent FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, while some fans put it down to laxities observed from him in the 2-1 loss against Uruguay during the competition. Still in the search for explanations of Enyeama’s absence, another class of soccer followers also recall that a spat recently occurred between Keshi and Eagles’ goalkeepers’ trainer, Ike Shorunmu over the former Enyimba International of Aba and Hapoel Tel Aviv of Israel star’s role in the team, and the conclusion is that the shot-stopper, who is said to be on his way back to Lille Metropole of France for the new season, has finally lost out in the scheme of things in the national team. However, Keshi has now downplayed all insinuations about Enyeama’s absence for the clash against South Africa and hinted that the vastly-improved ‘keeper will be back for the final 2014 World Cup qualifying fixture against Malawi in September. "We just want to give him a chance to rest while we look at other goalkeepers. His ability is not in doubt and we know what he can do. But he will be back for our qualifier against Malawi," Keshi said.
