Kevin Johnson, former NBA player, and good buddy of Barack Obama’s, recently wrote a screed in which he said that if we don’t change the police department in Sacramento it will become another Ferguson. In his rant he spoke of the racism in his city, which is funny since he was elected in a city with only 14% blacks. He blames Ferguson on Darren Wilson, and a racist police force. He also decried the fact that there are more blacks in prison than whites. For those of you who may not remember, Kevin Johnson was caught misusing $800,000 in taxpayer funds. Gerald Walpin, who at the time was the inspector general of the Corporation for National and Community Service, discovered Johnson’s illegal use of Americorps funds for his personal benefit. Johnson was not asked to pay a single penny back from the money he embezzled. Did anyone get fired over that incident? As a matter of fact someone did. Walpin, the investigator who discovered the fraud was fired by the Obama administration. Walpin made this statement after his firing: “We found out that Johnson had misused the members of the AmeriCorps volunteers for his own personal purposes, had used them in political campaigns, had used them to wash his car, and had even taken them to New York to lobby for him, and they’re supposed to be working tutoring students in Sacramento. He took them to New York to lobby for him to get a charter school charter here in New York. “ “Well, he never has paid back a portion. The settlement agreement signed behind our back, and remember, we’re the referring agency, and U.S. attorneys always deal through the referring agency. They ignored us and they entered into a settlement agreement that doesn’t require Johnson to pay anything back.” So when anyone asks me about the number of blacks in prison, I say, “They are two short.” (Obama and Johnson)
