Kevin remains sedated to spare him any pain/anxiety and now they - TopicsExpress

Kevin remains sedated to spare him any pain/anxiety and now they believe he may have a pulmonary embolism which could be related to the heart issues. As a result, he is being given IV Heparin. They reduced his oxygen levels to 60% today and his liver function tests actually showed an improvement. They also changed some of the settings on the vent - for the better. And it appears he will be getting blood transfusions tonight. I am not kidding myself here - Kevin remains very ill and I am waiting for that moment of clarity which will tell me what I need to do. The director of nursing called me at school today to apologize for my experience with staff who questioned his full code status. She was quite concerned about this and very supportive of us. She came to Kevins room while I was there to meet me and to continue our discussion. Providing staff with background information has resulted in everyone being more compassionate as well as interested in what Kevin has gone through. Thank you, Kim for making that suggestion about letting staff know about my experience - the letter I wrote has validated Kevin and his desire to be a full code. Not sure what tomorrow will bring but I know you will all be there with your support and caring. I will personally reply to everyone who has posted on this page as soon as I can.
