Key stakeholders IN the May 20 tripartite election are deliberating on the findings presented by the European Union Election Observation Mission team. The roundtable discussion is underway in Blantyre and has drawn participants from development partners, civil society, the media and other experts. The stakeholders have focused on the lessons learnt from the elections and the findings of the EU observer team. The election which most international observers had endorsed as free, credible and fair, was marred by claims of rigging and acts of violence that claimed the lives of at least 2 people. The contentious point came during the vote results tallying, which saw some political parties dragging the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to court to consider recounting the votes for the presidential race. This was turned down by the courts, which saw MEC proceeding to announce the winner of the election.
