Khama preps for post elections bloodshed? (Sunday Standard) President Lt gen Ian Khama is prepping for possible post election bloodshed and construction of a multi-million Pula underground top secret bunker with escape tunnels between Sebele and Phakalane Estates is at an advanced stage. Sunday Standard investigation team has been given a peek into the new top secret bunker commissioned by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) next to the spy agency’s office and petrol station in Sebele, with an elaborate system of underground tunnels going under the main railway line into Phakalane Estates where it to connect to a helipad. The top security underground installation which is built by Rimu Enterprises is just a hop, skip and a jump from the main road, but very easy to miss. There is no construction board announcing that major construction work is underway as is norm. Insiders say this is a sign of prudent planning in a country where the security calculus is being altered in preparation for possible civil war. The fear of post election bloodbath where stoked on Friday by President Khama when he warned that there was likely to be bloodshed should the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) lose the general elections next week. Khama, who sounded the warning at a political rally at Old Naledi in Gaborone, however did not explain how the bloodshed will come about. The warning, however, sheds light on speculations around a contraband cargo smuggled into Botswana two months ago by the DISS. (Sunday Standard)
