Kiama Council has harnessed the power of the National Broadband - TopicsExpress

Kiama Council has harnessed the power of the National Broadband Network and state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology to take community participation to the next level. Over the next two months, Kiama Council will implement live webcasting for the community to view meetings online and enable remote Public Access to improve community engagement. This project will make Kiama the first council in Australia to deliver Public Access meetings via videoconferencing and the NBN. The community can access both projects via the Kiama Council website using a smart phone, smart device, PC or laptop. The videoconferencing platform will automatically download the software and scale to the device and network being used. The solution has been designed to make community participation in local issues easier than ever before. The first stage of the project is focussed on live webcasting which will begin on Tuesday 20 May at 5pm. The second stage of the project includes live Public Access which will begin in July. Traditionally, residents wishing to participate in council meetings had to attend on site. Now they can become active citizens through digital technology. A recording of the council meeting, linked to the agenda, will be stored and accessible to the community via the Kiama Council website kiama.nsw.gov.au.
