Kidlington Colts U12s 3 vs Wantage Town Juniors U12s 7 The opening game of the season and an exciting and well mannered match held at Kidlington. The final result aside, both teams showed enough creativity to score more and would have done if not for the crossbar, post and goal keepers. Wantage scored in the first minute, showing their attacking intent, with Edward Lagden and Thomas Bound combining with some exquisite passing. Moments later Wantage scored a second, man of the match, Charles Smith linking in with Alex James to score. The Wantage attack continued to press, supported by the ever energetic Finn Bliss in midfield and tigerish James Locke in defence. Both were unlucky not to score, James shooting from distance and the ball rattling the crossbar. Despite the Wantage pressure Kidlington showed determination and spirit and made a number of breaks. However, Brett Harbud, Robbie Whittaker and James proved their worth with cover and pace at the back, marshalled by Marcus Elliott in goal. Further Wantage attacks followed, masterminded by Edward and Thomas who showed some deft touches. Charles scored and Edward added another, a glancing header from another cross from Alex. It was then Kidlington’s turn to press and they were rewarded with a nicely taken goal. Before the half finished Wantage scored a fifth, Thomas with a finely taken second. The half ending 5-1 to Wantage. Kidlington looked the better at the start of the second half and scored within a second of the start. Josh Matthews and Kian Woodley had come on before half time and combined in the second half, Josh unlucky, having rounded several players, was thwarted before he had a chance to shoot. Jack Adams and Aaron Robinson added their steel and determination to the side. Jack later scoring but having the goal ruled offside and Aaron tracking the Kidlington midfield. Kidlington were having a good spell and were on top when they were rightly awarded a penalty. Marcus stood tall in the Wantage goal and pulled off an inspirational save, diving to his left. Minutes later Charles, creative and strong, put a cross in for Edward who scored his second. Kidlington then attacked in numbers and scored a third. This seemed to spur Wantage into a further attack and Charles was rewarded for all his hard work with his second goal. The final whistle blew and the boys all shook hands.
