Kigezi Region police commander Olivia Wawire has asked the government and non-government organisations to support wives of police officers so that they can support their families without straining their husbands. While visiting Kabale police barracks on Wednesday, Ms Wawire said the better living standards of police officers’ families is crucial to their effectiveness at work. “The wives of policemen strongly support their husbands in effective service delivery. Therefore, there is a need for the government and non government organisations to design and fund projects to help them sustain their families even when their husbands are on special duties in and outside the country,” Ms Wawire said. The chairperson of the Kabale Wives of the Policemen Association, Ms Agatha Byamugisha, said they have been involved in selling charcoal and hawking clothes to supplement their husbands’ income but lack of enough capital remains a challenge. She said they need skills in projects such as poultry and mushroom growing. The district Woman MP, Ms Rona Ninsiima, promised to organise training workshops for the women to improve their skillz
