Kiko. This boy touched my heart today. There are more strays - TopicsExpress

Kiko. This boy touched my heart today. There are more strays that come in through the doors of the shelter than owner surrenders, so I often hold onto the thought that these strays are being missed, have a home to go to and will be reunited soon, but Kiko didnt have the misfortune of winding up at the shelter due to being lost. His owner had no home and he chose what he thought was the best of a bad situation for Kiko. Sometimes doing the right thing may be the most unselfish & toughest decision in a persons life. Giving up your friend of 6 years is heart wrenching. For me, seeing this dog longingly look out to the parking lot where he last saw his owner was heart breaking - I cant begin to imagine how his owner & he feel. He whined with a little howl. I tried to entertain him, but it was brief. He would return to that spot in the yard where he could see the parking lot & whine/howl again. :-( A broken heart for sure. He would look at me and wonder how I knew his name, but it wasnt comfort enough, possibly more of a reminder of his beloved person. You can tell he loved his person. He was treated right. He was licensed, neutered, well fed & cared for. I want to believe his person loved him so much that surrendering him was the best he could offer him. He is such a good boy. 6 years old, playful, well mannered, house trained & dont let that greying muzzle fool you, he can walk & run with me with no issues. Who is going to mend Kikos broken heart? Please share.... Lab/Border Collie mix, medium sized (A114544) Available at Antioch Animal Services.
