King Prithivi Narayan and King Mahendra in Nepal King Prithivi Narayan Shah the Great had founded this nation and declared Nepal as a genuine Hindu state as Hindustan was already under the grip of the Christians. At that time, the King had proclaimed with pride that Nepal was founded with great struggle and he had described Nepal as a garden of four castes and 36 races. Also, in his Dibya Upadesh, the King had given a guideline to his successors on Nepal’s foreign policy, economic policy, among others. These guidelines are still significant and if followed properly, Nepal will become a prosperous country. However, it will be irrelevant to talk about these things at a time when traitors and foreign agents have dominated the country. After King Prithivi Narayan Shah the Great, significant contribution was made by King Mahendra to give modern shape to the country. King Mahendra ruled the country only for one and a half decade. In fact, after 2017 BS, he assumed the executive power and drove the country as per his vision. During that time, Nepal was a country but there was lack of necessary organs to run a country. King Mahendra laid the foundation stone of the East-West Highway at a time when Nepal had no fund to construct such an ambitious project. This dream project was completed after his long efforts. People from one part of the country had to go to India while traveling from one part of the country to another. Today, after construction of this Highway, one can travel from one part to another part of the country by using Nepali soil. King Mahendra introduced land ceiling, which is known as a revolutionary step if land reform. Nepali students had to go to Patna or Ilahabad for higher education. King Mahendra established the Tribhuwan University so that the students got the opportunity to get higher education within the country. Nepal was naturally a beautiful country with high potentiality of attracting tourists but this sector was not explored. King Mahendra invited experts from abroad. He invited Boris, a Russian citizen and helped him to start Hotel Royal at the Bahadur Bhawan. Similarly, he invited Lainsingh Bangdel and other scholars as well as renowned artists and established the Royal Nepal Academy to promote the nation’s art and culture. During his time, there were very few industries. King Mahendra, with the view of industrialization in the country, made efforts to establish different industries. Besides, King Mahendra had made remarkable contribution to introduce Nepal as a sovereign and independent country. Nepal was able to become the member of the UN. Also, Nepal became the founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement at a time when there was the cold war. In all fields, King Mahendra had made remarkable contribution to give a proper shape to a modern nation.
