First she greeted everyone that had entered and waited for our response before kicking her ignition. Immediately,I noticed how those tender and assumed feeble hands wielded so much power and energy. With every gallop we encountered came bouts of sorry ooo, sorry ooo.She was apologizing for the pot-holes on the road. With her apology came a soothing relief on our part.It was like a shock absorber that cushioned all the gallop impact. Obviously,I was enjoying the ride. Spontaneously, she struck up a familiar tune and started singing mildly. The song filled the whole keke and my mind strayed to my mothers homely tunes as she did our laundry. My ears were poised as I took in all the words of her song.It was like a prayer of protection, the type the mother hen spurns and dances when an eagle hovers over her chicks. Suddenly,I felt safe and peaceful and I knew that nothing was going to happen on that journey and even if it did,my mind was at rest. How did a woman suddenly assure that I will be at the right place if there was an accident?I sat, hoping that the road would continue to stretch unending. What makes a man want to continue to ride on the pot-hole riddled road of Port-Harcourt? As she received the money from our grateful hands and satisfied faces, she couldnt stop saying thank you, thank you.I had just had a ride I wont forget in a long time and I cant help but agree to the expression What a man can do,a woman can do better. To every woman out there whos the family breadwinner and those who in one way or the other support their family,I duff my cap for you.Dont stop moving, dont let the society hold you back with its patriarchal preferences.Any man that asks you to shelf your dream and sit down at home needs to be questioned. You too, like your husband has a space that has been reserved for you and if you dont feel it,nobody else will.. Rise above what the society has tagged you, push past the territories it has tied you down with. There is a greater fulfillment and self realization that lies beyond where you just sit and answer a mans property.
