Kirby, I mentioned in an earlier post that I had a relatively early map of Springdale that made me wonder about the exact route of the Overland Mail through/past it. This is the map. It was part of John Branners 1888 Arkansas Geological Survey. The road coming into Springdale from the northeast does not follow the current alignment of Old Missouri Road on this map. Its possibly that it did 30 years earlier when Butterfield was looking for the most direct line of operation. Either way, Ill continue to keep my eye out for earlier detailed maps of that section.
