Knitathon is your opportunity to do your 67 minutes for Mandela Day If you are wondering what you can do for your 67minutes of community work for Mandela Day on Thursday July 18 then join the Knitathon at Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa in St George’s Mall. The hotel has joined forces with Fair Cape Dairies to support the Little Fighters Cancer Trust and in the spirit of ubuntu is inviting everyone to come along to the Atrium at the hotel and either knit or crochet a square, donate some fabric or drop off blankets to assist those in need. The squares will then be sewn into blankets or quilts and delivered to the Trust. With View Church assisting with the making up of the blankets this is simply the easiest way to donate your time and show your respect for the man who gave up so many years of his life to fight oppression. The Little Fighters Cancer Trust was set up to relieve some of the heartache and difficulties faced by families affected by childhood cancer. Practical, individualized and fast assistance is given by means of providing what is needed in the home and in the hospital. To join our community knitathon all you need to do is bring your needles and spend your 67 minutes knitting or crocheting a 15 x 15cm square or bring fabric cut to the same size. Donations of blankets can also be dropped off at the Atrium if you are unable to join the knitters! In addition, donations of activity books and crayons would be welcomed and can be dropped off at the same time. These will be taken to the children in hospital. The Atrium will be cosy, warm and welcoming as we knit the time away and celebrate Mandela Day. With Fair Cape Dairies providing some of their delicious yogurts and the hotel providing some tasty snacks and coffee where else would you want to spend your community time? Join the team of knitters as they donate their time and effort and have a little fun as we make a difference in someone else’s life. And, to add to that, you could be in line to win a night’s stay on a bed and breakfast basis at this wonderful central city hotel by ensuring that when you donate to this project your details are attached to the donation. Everyone who has contributed to the day will have a chance to enter the lucky draw. The Mandela Day event will take place from 11h00 until 16h00 on Thursday 18th July at Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa atrium. Drop off points will be positioned in the Atrium from the 10th to the 20th July and please ensure your name and telephone number is attached to your donation as entry to the competition. Please contact [email protected] or 073 729 6155 for more information, groups who would like to participate or any other inquiries.
