Know what? I kind of love Facebook--Its not chic to like it--its cool to make fun of it. But it makes me happy on the deepest level knowing that I can smile at my husband and Becca in London or My Cathy In S. Carolina or my friends in Australia or the Hague (imagine--I know someone who lives in the Hague!) our daughter in New Zealand will smile back at me. That friends, acquaintances and total, but friendly, strangers will know what we did today and laugh with our funny moments and share the sadder times too. I like knowing that even if we disagree on political matters we, because we share Facebook, realize that we really are all in this together.I want to reach out and help my friend who was in an accident to regain her strength; I want to cheer for Pat Corrigan whom I once had the pleasure of editing, as she reinvents herself in San Francisco where my former husbands cousin whom I love dearly lives. I never was one of the cool kids; in self defense, I was too sarcastic, not well dressed enough or pretty enough or just basically not cool enough but now, with you all, my friends on Facebook, I feel like I AM good enough to have friends all over the world--good people who will let me share what is going on with them and who will read or ignore what I have to write even if it is only about giant blackberries and my silly plum tree which I find is still dropping plums on the neighbors truck. Life is better with you all out there laughing and crying with me.
