Know what I learned? Addiction is considered a chronic illness now and legally has to be treated as such. Say you are on probation, and you fail a piss test for marijuana. If you consider yourself addicted to marijuana, they cannot send you to jail for failing a piss test, but must instead offer you rehabilitation. If they do send you to jail, by law, its similar to violating someone with dementia for forgetting something, or for something with an itch to itch their itch. Keep in mind, this is a new law- so if you have been treated unfairly under the new legislation, then it may require filing a law suit against whoever is penalizing you for having an addiction. This is one of the best things to happen to the judicial system and the medical system in a long while. (and medical marijuana, of course) Because now we have more options as far as a person who has committed a crime goes- they have more access to rehabilitation than simply just rotting in jail.
